It has been a long time since I last posted on the blog. I felt the need to take down the access to the site after the attack by my former employers. After being discriminated against because of my disease - something which I did not chose! - I have found it very difficult to express my feelings, my thoughts and to, truly, feel much of anything.
In a world that is supposedly so advanced and a society that is moving forward towards equality and fairness, I feel that we have not progressed much, if at all in reality. People still discriminate, people still hold things such as disability, race, sex, religion and motherhood against others and penalize them for it. What has change, what has advanced are the ways in which people avoid rules and regulations. People have become sneakier at getting around the ethics and morals. It makes me angry, sad, hurt, somber and outraged that such practices still continue in 2011. And yet they do. An employer informs you that you are too ill/weak/sick in their view to want to have you continue on -despite lacking any concrete proof or facts to support such statements. The government does not believe that you are hurt enough, sick enough or ill enough to stop working and to need help. If I were Catholic I would find myself in limbo. I am too sick and not sick enough.
While I have been discriminated against unfairly by those of the upper echelons of higher education and law school, I am supported by a wonderful husband, family and friends.
The question now is, where to go from here. How do I move forward and find a new path to take in life. Trial, error, tears and laughter. Hopefully with tears there is always a balance of laughter to go with it. I hope you'll join me.
